Curriculum

STEAM Learning + Language & Literacy +Music & Movement

The three tiers of our afterschool curriculum are designed around our enrichment programs in the fields of STEAM Learning, Language & Literacy, and Music & Movement.

Combined, these programs offer a dynamic curriculum that caters to the intellectual, academic, and creative abilities of our students. Our curriculum gives students the opportunity to develop a range of skills tailored to meet their individual needs. In our fun, loving, and encouraging environment, we focus on activating natural curiosities, helping children make exciting discoveries while learning more about the world around them. While moving from idea generation to implementation, children work independently and collaboratively to solve complex, real-world problems.

STEAM Learning

STEAM programs use methodologies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math to guide learning.  It is an integrated approach to learning that encourages students to think more broadly about real-world problems. By encouraging an interest in STEAM areas from an early age, we can capitalize on children’s natural desires to explore and experiment. This helps our students develop an understanding of how everything in their environment is interrelated. They learn problem solving skills, how to look at challenges from different angles, and rewrite the narrative on setbacks to see them as an opportunity to learn something new.

Why STEAM?

It helps students:

  • Ask questions

  • Connect the dots

  • Problem solve

  • Think creatively

  • Be innovative

Language & Literacy

Sunshine Kids Academy’s goal is to help children become well-spoken and comprehensible individuals. We recognize that children are naturally designed to absorb languages introduced to them during their first few years of life. As such we believe that it is important to give our students a well-rounded language program which offers both English and Japanese. Our Language & Literacy program is tailored to each age and level by our friendly experienced native or native-level teachers. Activities focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking through an array of fun and challenging exercises.

Music & Movement

The Music & Movement program incorporates both music appreciation and physical fitness through dance, gymnastics, and yoga. The music aspect introduces a variety of songs and instruments to appeal to each age-group and interest. Movement lessons focus on developing students’ proprioception skills through child-oriented physical activities and dance. Thoughtfully sequenced lessons include an array of learning opportunities and are designed to boost our students’ independence, social-emotional skills, early language development, coordination, and self-control. During each lesson, our students sing, listen, experiment, play, and dance.
